We are proud to be a "Virginia Grown" market! To wear that title, our market offers only produce and goods that are grown or made within 100 miles. The fruits and vegetables are from our local farms, the cookies and cakes from local bakers, and the handcrafted items there are all made by local artisans.
The only exception to our 100-mile rule is during the harvest season when certain produce is not available locally. Our customers are eager for fresh fruits and vegetables as early as possible, and if the Virginia fields are not ready for harvest, we will go outside the region to find what folks want. For example, during the months of April and May, the local farmers do not have tomatoes to offer yet; therefore the market will bring in out-of-region tomatoes for our customers. These tomatoes are labeled with the state from which they come so that our customers are aware. It is important to note, however, that once a certain crop is available from local fields, the market will offer only that local crop. We will not offer produce from outside our region once it is available here.
